​National Chinese Circus and the Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China

From feet juggling to high chair balancing, the National Chinese Circus and the Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China take the ancient acrobatic art to the next level in “Peking Dreams.” The operatic production incorporates acrobatics, music, mime, and dance together in an incredible visual spectacle. Featuring international award-winning performance artists, “Peking Dreams” will explore the sights, sounds, and magic of the city now known as Beijing.

The longest running circus group in China, the National Chinese Circus and the Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China are known for their use of rare acts such as the Grand Flying Trapeze, Great Teeterboard, and Straw Hats Juggling. The troupe features award-winning artists, including Madame Xia Juhua, current Chairwoman of the International Chinese Circus Society, and Ms. Li Liping, the first Golden Clown winner from China at the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival. As a company, the National Chinese Circus and the Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China has won over twenty Gold and Silver medals since their formation in 1953. The company has toured in over eighty countries around the world, performing for private audiences as well as in large-scale competitions.

For their performance at The Lyric Theatre, the National Chinese Circus and the Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China will perform “Peking Dreams,” a production complete with elaborate costumes, gorgeous make-up, and flawless routines. From the expressive and physical martial arts to the delicate art of carpet spinning, “Peking Dreams” explores the limits of the human body through acrobatics, dance, and performance, set to the enchanting sounds of Peking opera.
