The Doo Wop Project

You may have heard doo wop, but never like this. Starring cast members of the Broadway hit musical Jersey Boys, The Doo Wop Project explores the vibrant history of the doo wop style from its origins, with classic songs by the Crests and the Belmonts, to its contemporary variants, including music by Jason Mraz, Amy Winehouse, and Michael Jackson. Featuring some of Broadway’s most promising young singers, The Doo Wop Project reimagines the doo wop of yesteryear while putting a nostalgic twist on today’s pop hits.

Conceived backstage at the famous August Wilson Theatre, The Doo Wop Project features many of the current and former stars of some of Broadway’s most popular musicals, including Motown: The Musical, Beautiful, and Jersey Boys. The young and talented cast cover a wide range of rock and pop pieces, from classical doo wop songs of the 1950s and 60s, such as Thurston Harris’ “Little Bitty Pretty One” and The Skyliner’s “Since I Don’t Have You,” to more contemporary radio hits, including Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” and Amy Winehouse’s critically acclaimed cover of “Valerie.” Throughout the night, the performers tell some of their most memorable experiences working in the entertainment industry both on and off the stage, creating a wonderful night of singing and storytelling.

The Doo Wop Project is a night dedicated to doo wop and its legacy, highlighting some of the most popular contemporary doo-wop inspired hits, while still honoring its classic roots. Bridging generations of music, The Doo Wop Project brings one of the most durable and underrated American musical genres back to the forefront, inspiring listeners young and old. This season at The Lyric Theatre, hear some of your favorite hits from Smokey Robinson, Jason Mraz, The Beach Boys, and many more.
