Rick Miller (Toronto)

What do Pierre Elliott Trudeau, The Who, René Lévesque, Bob Marley, U2, Richard Nixon, Guns N’ Roses, Margaret Thatcher, Nirvana and Public Enemy have in common? They have all left an indelible mark on the ’70s, ’80s and the early ’90s, and they are featured in Carrefour regular Rick Miller’s BOOM X. This sequel to BOOM—which focused on baby boomers—offers a retrospective of the influential people and events that shaped his generation: Generation X.

Guiding us through the decades, the electrifying performer delivers nearly 100 impersonations of celebrities and politicians, interspersed with eye-boggling projections of headlines and archive videos covering iconic political, cultural, social and sports events. The October Crisis, the referendums, the Watergate scandal, the assassination of John Lennon, MTV, the birth of the Internet, the departure of the Expos and the École Polytechnique killings… BOOM X tackles major themes like racism, sexism and homophobia, but through masterful vocal and physical prowess, the artist who grew up in Montreal also weaves in a few threads of his own personal story, evoking the divorce of his parents and his career change. This furiously-paced multimedia one-man show will blow you away and tug at your heartstrings.
