Nestor Torres' Miami Spice

Things are heating up at The Lyric with the return of Nestor Torres,
Grammy winning Latin jazz sensation, as you have never seen him!

Savor the authentic Latin flavor of Torres' own musical journey, as he retraces his roots. The audience will be transported to Puerto Rico, New York City and Miami. Drenched in ‘Herencia’ and 'Tradicion', these dynamic urban cultures come together through the eyes and ears of Nestor Torres the story teller, in a mélange of sexy rhythmic melodies and spoken word. “I am really excited to return and bring a different and very personal show to the Lyric this year.

The repertoire will cover the full range of my musical history; from early Latin songs I have not performed in years, to brand new compositions yet to be released or heard by the general public. My performance will be unlike anything I have ever done in Stuart – or anywhere else for that matter.”

Something of a musical prodigy, Nestor Torres came to the United States from his native Puerto Rico and studied at two renowned institutions: the New England Conservatory of Music and the Berklee College of Music. After making guest appearances with mambo master Tito Puente and releasing a series of albums on independent labels in the early 1980s, Torres's career as a leading Latin & Jazz flautist was full of promise. After moving to Miami in the mid-1980s, he became part of a flourishing music scene that included Gloria and Emilio Estefan and the legendary bassist Israel "Cachao" Lopez. It has been said that "if a flute could talk and sing, it would certainly be in the voice of Nestor Torres, for he speaks through his instrument."
