After dropping out of high school to pursue comedy, Paula Poundstone immediately gained a cult following of dedicated fans. She swiftly became one of the best humorists of all time, making a name for herself as a comedian who knows how to work with her audience in
innovative and exciting ways. A regular panelist on NPR’s most popular show, the weekly news quiz show Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me, Paula Poundstone has a way with words, handling personal exchanges and political humor with ease and tact. Poundstone was the first woman to
win the Cable ACE award for Best Standup Comedy Special in the 1990s, and later became the first woman to perform standup at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

Throughout her career, Paula Poundstone has starred in numerous HBO and Bravo specials, won an Emmy Award, and served as “official correspondent” for The Tonight Show for the 1992 presidential race. As a testament to her impact on the stand up scene, Poundstone was named one of Comedy Central’s 100 Greatest Standups Of All Time and was voted into the Comedy Hall of Fame in 2010. When she’s not performing on stage, Paula is writing, including her book “There is Nothing in this Book That I Meant to Say” as well as pieces for Entertainment Weekly and The Los Angeles Times. Paula Poundstone recently released a comedy CD called I Heart Jokes: Paula Tells Them in Boston. For her performance at The Lyric Theatre this season, expect an up-close and personal experience with one of the most influential female comedians of all time.
